Jockey in green silks and yellow cap riding a racehorse on turf — best horse racing betting sites UK

Best horse racing betting sites UK: the top 10 for 2026

Every bookmaker in Britain says it is the best place to back a horse. We prefer to measure. Each day we compare the prices of 12 UK bookmakers on every runner in the country — on 17 October 2026, 381 priced runners across 45 races — and record who had the top price, who was furthest off it and who paid extra places. Then we look at what money can’t easily buy: Best Odds Guaranteed, live streaming, racing promotions and how the bookmaker treats its customers.

The result is this top 10. There is no single winner. bet365 is the best all-round racing account; SBK is the best for price; Betfred has the best racing extras. The right one for you depends on how you bet — and most serious punters keep two or three.

How we rate horse racing bookmakers

Most rankings lead with the welcome offer. We don’t, because a sign up bonus is used once and a bookmaker’s racing terms are used every day. Each site in this top 10 is scored on six things, in this order of weight:

  1. Prices — how often it has the top price on UK runners, and how far off the best price it is when it doesn’t, from our daily comparison of 12 bookmakers.
  2. Best Odds Guaranteed — the start time, whether you must opt in, and any caps or activity tests.
  3. Each-way terms and extra places — how many places it pays, and how often it pays more than the standard terms.
  4. Live streaming — which races you can watch, and whether you need a bet to watch them.
  5. Racing promotions — money back specials, Lucky 15 bonuses and loyalty schemes for existing customers.
  6. The welcome offer — judged on how much of it a racing punter can actually use.

Every bookmaker here is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. Where one has been fined, we say so.

1. bet365 — the best all-round horse racing betting site

bet365 is the account almost every racing punter keeps, and not because of the welcome offer. It is the completeness: live streams of UK, Irish and French racing, Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish races, and markets on every meeting from the first at Southwell to the last at Wolverhampton.

What makes bet365 unique for racing

Extra places. On 17 October bet365 paid more places than the standard each-way terms in 7 of the 42 races we tracked — more than any other bookmaker in our feed. It also had the top price on 29.7% of runners, second only to SBK. Streaming is available to any funded account or anyone who has bet in the last 24 hours, and the app’s edit-bet and partial cash-out tools are the benchmark for the industry.

bet365 bet types

Win and each-way, forecasts and tricasts, every full-cover multiple from a Yankee to a Lucky 63, the Tote placepot, quadpot and jackpot, and without-the-favourite and match bets on the big meetings.

What punters say about bet365

The app is among the most popular in Britain: 4.7 out of 5 from more than 450,000 ratings on the UK App Store. Trustpilot is far harsher — 1.3 from over 7,000 reviews, with most complaints about account restrictions and hard-to-reach customer support.

Where to use bet365

Big-field handicaps, where its extra-place terms matter most — think the Cambridgeshire, the Ebor or the Grand National — and any midweek meeting you want to watch live.

2. SBK — the best odds for horse racing

If price is what matters, SBK is the bookmaker to beat. On 17 October it had the top price on 55.5% of priced UK runners — nearly twice as often as bet365 — and where it wasn’t top, its odds were closer to the best than anyone else’s, returning on average just 9% less profit.

Why SBK stands out for horse racing

Its prices come from the Smarkets betting exchange, where punters bet against each other rather than a bookmaker’s margin. SBK’s Price+ feature then shows its odds next to other bookmakers’ in the app, so you can see when you have the best price — and when you don’t.

Racing markets at SBK

Win and each-way singles, racing multiples and cash out, in an app built mobile-first.

SBK reviews from punters

The app scores 4.6 out of 5 from around 6,100 UK App Store ratings. Trustpilot reviewers praise its prices and quick live chat, but its 1.9 score reflects complaints about account limits and Saturday-afternoon app stability.

Which races suit SBK

Short-priced favourites and competitive Saturday handicaps, where a few points of price make the biggest difference over a season.

Welcome offer: Bet £10 Get £40 in Free Bets

New UK customers. Min £10 first deposit. Place a bet of £10 at min odds of 3.0 and get £40 in Free Bets within 48 hours. Restrictions apply. Full T&Cs apply. 18+. GambleAware.org

Pros
– Top price on 55.5% of UK runners
– Price+ shows when its odds are beaten

Cons
– Mobile-first: the app is the main product
– Welcome tokens tied to multiples and Bet Builders

3. Betfred — the best racing bonuses and Lucky 15 offers

Fred Done opened his first betting shop in Salford in 1967 with winnings from England’s World Cup victory, and Betfred still behaves like a racing bookmaker. It sponsors all five British Classics and offers some of the most generous racing concessions in the country.

Betfred’s racing edge

Best Odds Guaranteed starts at 8am, earlier than most rivals. Lucky 15, 31 and 63 bets pay three, four or five times the odds if only one selection wins, with a bonus of up to 25% if they all do. Winning tricasts get a 10% bonus, and selected races carry Extra Place and Super Extra Place terms. UK and US racing streams free to any funded account.

Betfred bet types and markets

Win, each-way, forecasts, tricasts, every full-cover multiple, and the #PickYourPunt bet builder.

Betfred user ratings

The most balanced reputation in our top 10: 3.1 on Trustpilot from almost 15,000 reviews, and 4.6 from around 69,000 UK App Store ratings. Reviewers like the app and the payouts, and complain about promotions not being credited.

When Betfred is the bookmaker to use

Saturday Lucky 15s across the ITV races, and the Classics — from the 2,000 Guineas to the St Leger.

Welcome offer: Bet £10 Get £50

New customers only. Register, deposit with Debit Card, and place first bet £10+ at Evens (2.0)+ on Sports within 7 days to get 3 x £10 in Sports Free Bets & 2 x £10 in Acca Free Bets within 10 hours of settlement. 7-day expiry. – Welcome offer excludes racing
– Best Odds Guaranteed on selected races only
– £10m Gambling Commission fine in 2025

It has the biggest welcome offer in our top 10, at £60.

How to pick the right horse racing betting site

Start with Best Odds Guaranteed

If you bet in the morning, BOG is worth more than any welcome offer: whenever the starting price is bigger than the price you took, you are paid the bigger one. Check what time it starts (8am at Betfred, Ladbrokes, Coral and Unibet; 9am at Betway; 10am at Virgin Bet and QuinnBet), whether you need to opt in, and any conditions. Our best BOG sites guide goes into the detail.

Compare prices, not promises

Our data shows big differences: SBK had the top price on 55.5% of runners, Coral on 12.6%. Over a season, that gap matters more than a one-off free bet. Check today’s odds before every bet.

Check the each-way terms

In big fields, the number of places paid can decide whether a bet wins or loses. bet365 paid extra places in 7 of 42 races we tracked; Virgin Bet lets you choose your own.

Make sure you can watch the race

Streaming rules vary: free with a funded account at Betfred, Ladbrokes, Coral and Virgin Bet; a bet needed at Unibet and Betway.

Read the welcome offer as a racing punter

Some offers exclude racing from the qualifying bet (Unibet) or tie free bets to football Bet Builders. Betfred and Betway give you free bets you can use on single horses. Compare them in our free bets guide.

Keep more than one bookmaker account

Most experienced punters keep a price account (SBK), an all-rounder (bet365) and a promotions account (Betfred or Unibet), and bet wherever the value is.

Horse racing betting explained: the rules that change your returns

Each-way betting

An each-way bet is two bets of equal stake: one on the horse to win, one on it to place. The place part pays a fraction of the odds — usually a quarter or a fifth — on the number of places the bookmaker offers. Standard terms depend on the field: two places in races of five to seven runners, three in eight or more, and four in handicaps of 16 or more. That is why extra places matter so much in big-field handicaps.

Rule 4 deductions

If a horse is withdrawn after you’ve struck your bet, the race is weaker and the bookmaker reduces winnings on the remaining runners by a set amount in the pound. The shorter the price of the withdrawn horse, the bigger the deduction. Best Odds Guaranteed doesn’t protect you from Rule 4. Our BOG guide shows how the two interact.

Ante-post betting

Ante-post bets are placed days, weeks or months before a race — on the Grand National or the Gold Cup, for example. The prices are bigger, but if your horse doesn’t run, you usually lose your stake, and BOG doesn’t apply. Some bookmakers offer non-runner money back in the build-up to the big festivals.

Tote and exchange betting

The Tote pools every stake on a bet type and shares it among the winners, so there’s no fixed price; the placepot, quadpot and jackpot are pool bets. A betting exchange lets you back or lay a horse against other punters, for a commission on winnings. Both suit some punters, but neither offers BOG, so for everyday racing a fixed-odds bookmaker from this list is usually the better place to start.

Bookmakers for the big festivals: Cheltenham, Aintree and Royal Ascot

The racing calendar’s biggest meetings bring the most competitive odds and offers of the year. bet365 is the best account for watching every race, Betfred for extra places on the big handicaps and Lucky 15 bonuses, and Coral and Ladbrokes for money back specials. Ante-post markets on the Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National open months in advance, and most bookmakers pay extra places on the big handicaps during the festival itself. Is horse racing betting legal and taxed in the UK?

Betting on horse racing is legal for adults aged 18 and over in Great Britain, as long as you bet with a bookmaker licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. Every bookmaker on this page holds a licence. Punters don’t pay tax on betting winnings: betting duty is paid by the bookmaker, not by you.
