Bookmaker review

Betfred review: racing offer, Best Odds Guaranteed & bonuses

Betfred began with a single bet. In 1967 Fred Done used his winnings from England’s 1966 World Cup win to open a betting shop in Ordsall, Salford. Nearly six decades later the company still bears his name, still has more than 1,100 high-street shops, and still behaves like a racing bookmaker in a way few online-first rivals do. It sponsors all five British Classics, it has revived a £2 million Triple Crown bonus for 2026, and its racing promotions are among the most generous in the country.

What it doesn’t have is the sharpest odds. Across 381 priced UK runners on 17 October 2026, Betfred had the top price among our 12 partners on 20.5% of them, and its odds returned on average 17.3% less profit than the best available. Betfred is where you go for the extras, not the price.

How the Betfred offer works

Register, deposit by debit card and, within seven days, place a first bet of £10 or more at Evens or bigger. Within ten hours of it settling, Betfred credits £50: three £10 sports free bets and two £10 acca free bets. You have seven days to use them.

It is the most racing-friendly welcome offer on our list. The three sports free bets can go on single horses, and the two acca free bets suit a Saturday multiple across the ITV races.

Key terms of the Betfred sign up offer

No Promo Code is needed: the Bet £10 Get £50 new customer offer applies when you register and meet the terms. The deposit must be by debit card, the qualifying bet must be at Evens (2.0) or bigger, and it must be placed within seven days of registering. The qualifying bet can be on a horse. Free bets are excluded from Best Odds Guaranteed, so a free bet is settled at the price you take.

Betfred promo code October 2026

Betfred doesn't need a promo code. The welcome offer — Bet £10 Get £50 — is applied when you open an account through the link below and meet the qualifying terms.

Is Betfred good for horse racing?

Yes — it is one of the best racing bookmakers in Britain, for three reasons: the earliest Best Odds Guaranteed on our list, generous multiples bonuses and regular extra places.

Best Odds Guaranteed from 8am

Bets on UK, Irish and selected international races placed after 8am on race day are paid at the starting price if it is bigger than the price you took, with no opt-in. The concession excludes Super Extra Place bets, Lucky 15, 31 and 63 bets, ante-post bets, tote bets, free bets and price boosts. Compare it with other bookmakers in our best BOG sites guide.

Betfred live streaming

UK and US racing streams free to any account with a balance. Other meetings need a £1 bet, or 50p each-way, on the race. Expect the stream to run up to 30 seconds behind the live pictures.

Betfred bet types and markets

Every standard racing bet is here: win, each-way, forecasts, tricasts and full-cover multiples from a Yankee to a Lucky 63.

Betfred odds: how they compare

We compare every partner bookmaker’s price on every UK runner, every day. Here’s how Betfred prices today’s remaining UK favourites against the best price from 12 bookmakers:

Betfred racing promotions for existing customers

This is where Betfred earns its place. Its existing customer offers are built around horse racing, and they run every day rather than only on festival weeks.

Lucky 15, 31 and 63 bonuses

If only one of your selections wins, Betfred pays three, four or five times the odds on it. If they all win, you get a 10%, 20% or 25% bonus on the total. These bets are excluded from Best Odds Guaranteed in return.

Extra places and Super Extra Places

Selected races carry Extra Place and Super Extra Place terms — six places instead of four on some of the biggest handicaps at Cheltenham. In a big-field handicap, an extra place can turn a losing each-way bet into a winning one. Super Extra Place bets don’t get BOG.

Tricast bonus

Betfred pays a 10% bonus on winning tricasts.

Rewards4Racing

Betfred is part of the Rewards4Racing scheme, which lets racegoers and punters collect points.

Betfred and British racing

Few bookmakers are as embedded in the sport. Betfred sponsors all five British Classics and the Derby Festival at Epsom, and for 2026 revived its £2 million bonus for any horse that wins the Triple Crown. Between 2011 and 2019 it also owned the Tote, which it bought from the government for £265 million. For racing punters, that history shows in the big meetings: Betfred is at its most generous on Classic days and festival weeks.

The Betfred app and features

The app carries the full racing offer: Best Odds Guaranteed, Lucky 15 bonuses, extra places and free UK racing streams with a funded account. With almost 69,000 ratings at 4.6 on the UK App Store, it is one of the most popular betting apps in the country.

Cash out and #PickYourPunt

There is full and partial cash out, and a bet builder called #PickYourPunt.

Betfred deposits and withdrawals

The minimum deposit is £5, or £10 for the welcome offer, which requires a debit card. Withdrawals go back to the method you paid with, and security checks can add up to 48 hours.

Can Betfred be trusted?

Yes. Betfred has been taking bets since 1967, is still owned by its founder, Fred Done, and is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. It isn’t spotless: the Gambling Commission fined Betfred’s operator £825,000 in December 2025 for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings.

Safer gambling tools at Betfred

Deposit limits (daily, weekly or monthly), reality checks, time-outs from 24 hours to six weeks and self-exclusion from six months to five years.

Betfred review: our verdict

Betfred is a racing bookmaker in the old sense: generous with concessions, loyal to the sport, and only middling on price. Take the welcome offer, bet early to make the most of Best Odds Guaranteed, and keep a sharper-priced account alongside it. Rating: 4.5/5.
