Epsom racecourse: racecards, tips and course guide

Left-handed Turf Flat

◎ Track configuration & key facts

Handed: Left

Going trend · Derby Festival traditionally rides good to firm in early June. Watering policy targets safe ground around 3.5.

Draw bias · In the 5f Dash sprint, low draws (1-5) have a major edge. In the Derby itself, middle draws (6-12) avoid the rail issues but stay closer to the inner than wide draws.

★ Signature events at Epsom

JUNE

Cazoo Derby Festival

Two days featuring the Betfred Oaks (Friday) and the Cazoo Derby (Saturday) — the most famous Flat race in the world over 1m 4f.

★ What punters need to know about Epsom

Derby winners since 2000 have almost all come from Aidan O'Brien, Charlie Appleby or John & Thady Gosden — pedigree and proven middle-distance form essential.
A horse who has won at Chester (the May Festival Chester Vase) often handles Epsom's turns and undulations.
Avoid Derby longshots that lack stamina — the final uphill 2½ furlongs is brutal.
