Draw bias · On the Rowley Mile straight 1m, in big fields, the stands' side (high numbers) has a marginal edge.

★ Signature events at Newmarket

  • MAY
    QIPCO Guineas Festival
The opening Classics weekend — Saturday's 2,000 Guineas (colts) and Sunday's 1,000 Guineas (fillies) over the Rowley Mile.
  • JULY
    July Festival
Three days on the July Course featuring the July Cup (G1 6f sprint), Falmouth Stakes and Princess of Wales's Stakes.
  • SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER
    Cambridgeshire & Cesarewitch
Two of the most historic handicaps in the calendar — full-field, high-quality betting heats.

★ What punters need to know about Newmarket

  • Newmarket Guineas form is the gold-standard pointer for the rest of the European Classic season.
  • Trainers who pre-season at Newmarket (Charlie Appleby, John & Thady Gosden, Saeed bin Suroor) hold the home edge.
  • On the July Course, watch for fillies upgrading from Listed form — the Falmouth attracts the best 1m fillies in training.
