Going trend · West-coast weather means soft ground is the norm for the spring jumps meeting. Gold Cup weekend in September can be anything from good to heavy.

Draw bias · In the Ayr Gold Cup, traditionally the stands' side rail (high numbers in a big field) has held the edge — but this varies year-to-year with ground.

★ Signature events at Ayr

  • APRIL
    Coral Scottish Grand National Festival
Two-day spring jumps meeting featuring the Scottish Grand National — Scotland's most prestigious chase over 4m 1f.
  • SEPTEMBER
    Ayr Gold Cup
The historic 6f sprint handicap — one of the biggest betting heats of the British Flat season with full fields and big prize money.

★ What punters need to know about Ayr

  • Scottish-trained horses (Lucinda Russell, Sandy Thomson, Stuart Coltherd) typically out-perform expectation at the spring jumps meeting.
  • Ayr Gold Cup form is hugely tactical — watch the early pace and where the eventual winner sat.
  • Conditions stakes through the season can be steep climbs — class drops often telegraph confidence.
