Going trend · March Festival can range from heavy (rain-affected) to good to soft (dry winter). The closing uphill stretch finds out horses who don't stay.

Draw bias · No significant draw bias — National Hunt course. Trip and class are the dominant factors.

★ Signature events at Cheltenham

  • MARCH
    The Cheltenham Festival
Four days of the world's most prestigious National Hunt racing — 28 races including the Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, Stayers' Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup.
  • NOVEMBER
    November Meeting
Three-day autumn meeting featuring the Paddy Power Gold Cup — the curtain-raiser for the jumps season proper.
  • JANUARY
    Trials Day
Cotswold Chase and Cleeve Hurdle headline a card packed with Festival pointers.

★ What punters need to know about Cheltenham

  • Trainer-form is critical in March — Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead historically dominate from Ireland.
  • Best Odds Guaranteed and Non-Runner-No-Bet are essential for ante-post Festival punters.
  • Watch the going changes through the day — the Festival often gets progressively softer as crowds churn the ground.
  • Stayers (3m+) need genuine staying form on a stiff galloping track — ignore horses with only 2m form.
