★ Signature events at Newcastle

  • JUNE
    Betfair Northumberland Plate Festival
Three-day Flat meeting featuring the "Pitmen's Derby" — the historic 2m Northumberland Plate Handicap on the AW.
  • FEBRUARY
    Eider Chase
Marathon 4m 1f handicap chase — Scotland's answer to the Grand National.

★ What punters need to know about Newcastle

  • Northumberland Plate is run off a flat finish on Tapeta — stamina and pace judgement are essential.
  • Tapeta form translates well to Wolverhampton and Newcastle — but less so to Polytrack tracks like Lingfield.
  • Watch for North-based trainers (e.g. Karl Burke, Tim Easterby) at Northumberland Plate Festival.
